Good Works Auto Repair
Shock and Awe

Having been in the auto repair industry most our lives we have seen some pretty unbelievable stuff. Whether it be extremely bald tires or a do-it-yourself air intake hose replacement somehow we never cease to be amazed.

Just how long can you put off an oil change?

An oil change is one of the most essential and important things you can do to maintain your vehicle. Modern day engines are not configued the way a tradition engine is, many of the engine components such as the valve train, the engine timing, etc. are based on oil pressure. In an extreme situation, lack of oil pressure can cause the engine to lock up reulting in thousands of dollars worth of repairs.

Cheap Oil Changes:
What You NEED To Know

Have you ever had your oil changed at a car wash? This customer did and you will not believe what happened! Not only did the car wash cause potential harm to the vehicle, they may have also voided this customer’s warranty! And as if that wasn’t enough, they didn’t even change the filter. When it comes to your cars oil changes, it is important to use a reptuable company so you can rest assured you are getting excatly what you paid for, with the equipment and parts your vehicle needs.

Have You Ever Changed Your Fuel Filter?

Generally speaking, your fuel filter should be changed about once per year. When the fuel filter isn’t changed it can get clogged causing the motor in the fuel pump to overheat and eventually fail. Failing to maintain a vehicle properly can result in costly repairs, in fact consumers can save up to 80% over a ten year period on their cars simply by performing a little preventative maintenance.

Why Your Vehicle Needs A Coolant Flush

Has your technician ever suggested a coolant flush for your vehicle? The life span of your vehicles heater core could be dependent on it. If a vehicle does not receive a coolant flush for an extended period of time, the build up and sludge can turn to mud, resulting in a costly repair and an entire engine flush. View the video to see an example of what happens when preventative maintenance is avoided.

Tires Should Only Have One Hole

Have you ever driven down the road and seen shredded pieces, or even an entire tire spread out on the highway? “What happened?” you might ask. Perhaps you even worry a bit that there is something in the road that could ruin your tires, too.

Perhaps, it was nothing in the road – no nail, no piece of metal. It could be just the tire – its age, its mileage, its care. All too often, we have customers come into our facility and they unknowingly have secondary tread, or even steel belt cords, protruding out from their car’s tires. It’s not going to take running over something to cause these tires to blowout. It’s simply a matter of time before they join the “rubber alligators” laying along the highway.

The answer to this equation is to go to a reputable, reliable, established repair facility, where a highly-trained, certified, conscientious technician will service your car for the same price and let you know of any issues you may have with your tires, suspension, or alignment. It will instill a great sense of peace-of-mind for you and for your family!

Please Don’t Try This At Home

Don’t have the part you need? This guy seemed to think a Pringles Can fit just right.

You Won’t Believe How Little Is Left of This Battery Cable!

This is why you need to clean your Battery Cables! Check out this video – the corrosion has nearly worn the battery cable down to nothing! Take care of your car with regular maintenance, and it will take care of you. Mile Markers know…if you want your car to last, make sure you see a reliable auto repair shop.

An Incredible Look At Dangerously Bad Brakes!

When it comes to your car’s safety, brakes top the list of systems that need monitoring. However, many prople are unaware of the signs that indicate a car’s brakes may need maintenance or repair.

For routine maintenance, it’s important to check the vehicle’s braking system at least once a year. A thorough inspection should include brake lining wear, brake fluid level, rotor thickness, condition of hoses and brake lines, brake and dash warning lights, as well as taking the car for a test drive to detect other potential brake system problems. It is also important to be alert and recognize the danger signs of brake problems. Other warning signs include an illuminated brake warning light, brake grabbing, low pedal feel, vibration, hard pedal feel and squealing.

What happens when you forget? Or worse yet, your shop fails to inspect your brakes – over time, they could look like this.

What’s Really in Your Air Filter?

Your car running with a clogged air filter is just like running a mile with cotton balls stuffed up your nose. It’s a lot of extra work, and it’s very uncomfortable.
