We are so excited to introduce our new club here at Good Works Auto Repair called the Mile Marker Club. This exciting new community is a place where vehicle owners can go to share and exchange tips on how to keep their vehicles on the road for the long haul. We will also be joining in the conversation and our auto mechanics will share their tips on how to keep your vehicle running as smoothly and as long as possible. You can also use the community as your brag page where you can post up pictures of your baby and share with other members how many miles she has and what steps you took to get her to that milestone.
What got us thinking about this new club was when our own 2004 Honda Odyssey EX reached a huge milestone on her own … The 200,000 mile mark!! We remember when having a vehicle that lasted 100,000 miles was an anomaly, but not anymore. The reason behind this shift is not only better manufacturing, but a better understanding of how big a role preventative maintenance plays in a vehicle’s longevity. Let’s take a look at our Odyssey’s journey.
We purchased this vehicle back in 2005 when it already had 9,000 miles on it. Now, 191,000 miles later, it still has its original engine, transmission, starter, alternator, a/c compressor, radiator, steering pump, steering rack, catalytic converters and most of its other components … why? It is a simple answer, because we believe in the power of preventative maintenance. Performing regular maintenance, flushing out contaminated fluids, keeping a fresh battery under the hood, keeping the engine in good tuned condition and seeing a professional when the check engine light comes on is the simple formula to vehicle longevity.
Sure, it takes an investment to keep your vehicle maintained properly, but think of the cost of NOT keeping up with it. To replace any of these original parts that had failed due to negligence, would have cost us at least $10,000 or more but instead, it has only cost us the maintenance to keep them operating as good as new. Over the last 10 years the retail cost for the preventative maintenance we put into our Odyssey was around $2,500, which is a cost savings of at least $7,500! Investing in preventative maintenance from the beginning is guaranteed to save you money in the long run.
