One of the best things you can do for your vehicle is to find a trustworthy auto repair shop and a professional mechanic to give you sound advice, fair prices and reliable repairs. When you build a relationship with a mechanic, you are more likely to take better care of your vehicle because it isn’t as challenging and stressful as bringing it to a dealer with those sky high prices. But upon buying a new vehicle, most people are lead to believe that they must bring their vehicle to the dealer for repairs in order to preserve their warranty. This is not necessarily the case and we want more consumers to be aware of this.
Original equipment manufacturers, or OEMs, often suggest in owner’s manuals, advertisements or through dealership personnel that motorists and enthusiasts must use the OEM-branded oil to comply with the new vehicle or equipment warranty. At our repair shop, we use synthetic products such as AMSOIL and other ultra-high quality oils. We pride ourselves on superior customer service and enjoy giving consumers the opportunity to have their repairs done at their trusted repair shop. Even the experts at cars.com state that “as long as you have records of routine maintenance such as oil changes and have not altered the vehicle with non-factory parts that could be blamed for causing problems such as an aftermarket high-performance engine computer calibration or a suspension lowering kit, your warranty should remain in effect.”
Follow your instinct and trust your local repair shops if you enjoy the relationship you have established with them. They should be able to perform preventative maintenance, oil changes and other repairs without you worrying that your warranty will be voided. In fact, pursuant to the Magnuson Moss Act, motorists and enthusiasts have the right to use whichever brand of oil they prefer and to practice extended drain intervals without voiding their factory warranties. You have the right to choose your repairs even though dealerships and manufacturers have consumers believing otherwise. Need something done to your vehicle? We can help!
